Coping With Uncertainty in the Age of COVID-19

We are all saddened by the suffering of so many people due to the COVID-19 virus, both around the block and across the world. Our hearts are with all of those affected. It has, of course, also been an incredibly difficult time for everyone across our community. For those who may be uncertain on what this means for future projects, outside work or even what will happen with projects currently in production we all must cope with that uncertainty.

Meanwhile, remember that our society is better because of you – because of the wonderful work you’ve created. Television and film whether on broadcast television or streaming services are helping people get a break from the news and forget COVID for a while. This lessens people’s anxiety, helps them enjoy time with their families and brings us all together.

Thankfully, there are a number of resources you can turn to right now:

  • There are high hopes for a comprehensive aid package from Congress that may benefit both freelancers who have been affected by COVID. This is colloquially called “Legislative Package Phase 3.”
  • You may want to consider reaching out to your Senators to voice your opinion.
  • Of course, employees who have lost work can sign up for unemployment benefits which may be increased above the usual limits.
  • In this article, you’ll find a living, breathing list of places where musicians can turn for help, both nationally and within each state. We will keep you up-to-date with more information as it becomes available.

Whether you are just starting out career or you have many years of experience, we’re all in this together, and together we will get through it. So stay safe, remain optimistic, keep creating, and remember that you aren’t alone. There are over 13,000 just like you.
